Antique Tuareg silver ring with green agate stone, from Mali.

The metal comes from ancient coins of the French colonists of 19ch.
During the French colonization in West africa, the French currency had no value, so the settlers used it as material exchanges.
The French coins were silver, and local artisans used it as material for the elaboration of jewels.

The green agate stone is probably made in Idar-Obertein, Germany and imported to Africa in the early 1900s.
The green color is the color of Islam. In Africa and in the Arab countries often using stones and green gems to create jewelry that they hire a security feature.

Most of our pieces have spent decades on at least two continents, and have been treasured by several owners. Small splits, scrapes and cracks are a normal part of their patina attesting to their age and extensive use. We examine each piece carefully when we find it. Please look carefully at the pictures which may also reveal condition and damage.
